BETTER LIGHTING - Kathryn Ramey

2:13, 16mm to Digital, Color, 2026

An agitprop made from two 30-second GE adverts from the 1970's repurposed to rebuke the role white women voters in the US have chosen to uphold white supremacy and the patriarchy instead of supporting the interests of women and anyone who loves them.

Kathryn Ramey (1967), Vancouver, WA / USA. A Guggenheim and Creative Capital fellow with an MFA in film and a PhD in anthropology who has made over a dozen films and installations, contributed numerous articles to anthologies and journals and written the essential text “Experimental Filmmaking: BREAK THE MACHINE” (Routledge, 2015). Her films operate at the intersection of experimental analogue processes and ethnographic research and are characterized by hand-processing, optical printing, and animation. She has screened at several festivals such as Toronto, Ann Arbor, TriBeca, Ji.hlava, and 25fps, among others. She is a full professor in the Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College, Boston, MA USA.

Legacy - Leyla Mandel
4:53, 16mm to Digital, Color, 2025

What appears to be an old 16mm film reel uncovered after years of being kept locked away, documents the degradation of the natural environment and its effects. Fires rage, floods swallow the frame, while chaos and destruction unfold in flickering fragments. This is all that’s left behind.

Leyla Mandel is an emerging visual artist and filmmaker. She is pursuing a combined degree in film and political science at Tufts University and has a certificate from the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Her work explores environmental themes, the impact of far-right media, and the cultural significance of religion.

The Mill | Minsk, Maine - Mike Stuttman
11:50, Digital, Color, 2025

The Mill is set in the fictional town of Minsk, Maine. "On a river. Processed trees, rocks, earth and sweat into other stuff. Built in the 19th century. Continuously operated until 1981 when it was sold then mothballed. While mysterious pockets of industry persist, the site is now mostly abandoned"

An animator, educator and digital arts evangelist, Mike is the Creative Director of Vacationland Animation. His work has been shown at an assortment of odd and interesting film festivals including the Coney Island Film Festival, the Big Apple Film Festival and the Atlanta Underground Film Festival.

Snow Crystals - Lisa McCarty
5:01, Digital, Color, 2025

125 years apart, two sky gazers are united by their fascination with snow. A prismatic encounter combining microscopic views from the 19th and 21st centuries; ephemeral splendor in the tradition of Joris Ivens and Jean Painlevé. Look closely. Even closer. Closer, still. Each crystal is singular, never to be seen again.

[sun]film - Derek Taylor
3:10, Digital, Color, 2025

An arrangement of found image sources from the 16th Century onward, the film looks at the changing representations of the giant star at the center of the solar system. From celestial maps to telescopic photos, the film traces the sun as a natural constant, a mirror of human curiosity, and a radiant symbol of mystery.

Derek Taylor creates films that explore the intersection of documentary and experimental filmmaking, with a particular emphasis on themes of history and landscape. He often examines the tension between the temporary and the enduring aspects of lived experience, using formal and textural elements to explore this dynamic. His films, frequently created using analog and photochemical techniques, have screened at festivals around the world and invite viewers to reflect on how we observe and remember the world around us. Taylor holds a M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is currently based in Connecticut, USA.
